Royal Ballet & Opera Inspire Students at North Liverpool Academy

Towards the end of the Spring Term, North Liverpool Academy was proud to host the Royal Ballet & Opera for a highly enriching dance event, bringing together students from across the academy alongside local primary schools.

What is the Royal Ballet and Opera?

The Royal Ballet and Opera is a world-renowned cultural institution based at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London. It brings together two organisations; The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera, alongside the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, presenting premier ballet and opera performances.

Students from across NLA and from local primary schools took part in a range of activities including workshops, rehearsals and performances. Throughout the day, students worked together to create routines, try new styles of dance and build their confidence performing in front of others.

Our dancers described the experience as “very positive and enjoyable,” particularly the workshops where they could collaborate and learn from one another. Many said they felt “proud, empowered and special,” and enjoyed being part of such a supportive environment.

It was inspiring to see students of all ages working together, with younger pupils inspired by older students, and our own students stepping up to lead and support others.

The Royal Ballet and Opera shared how important it is for young people to have a space where they can express themselves freely.

Brendan, a member of the organisation, told us:

"Experiences like this give quieter students the chance to develop leadership skills, while more confident students can support others and help give them a voice."

“It was an exciting experience for our pupils, who gave their ultimate best effort. They practised during lunch breaks and were eager to see what other schools had prepared.”

— Teacher at Holy Name Primary School

"It was a great opportunity for students to be inspired and follow their dreams and passions."

— Teacher at Rudson Primary School

“I have been involved with the LSSP dance competition for over 10 years, and partnerships with organisations such as the Royal Ballet & Opera allow our community to access such wonderful experiences. It is vital that we continue to champion the arts within the curriculum. It is also fantastic to see our students inspiring younger pupils and giving them a space to express themselves.”

— Miss Senior, Head of Performing Arts at NLA

This was a fantastic event that brought students together through creativity, teamwork and performance. We are incredibly proud of everyone involved and grateful to the Royal Ballet & Opera for delivering such a memorable experience.
