This year’s National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships (NJIRC) took place virtually, allowing students from across the country to submit their scores remotely for the 2000m rowing ergometer relay.
A team of Year 10 students from NLA – Alexander, Abraham, Kacper and Japhect – rose to the challenge and completed the 2000m distance in an impressive time of 6 minutes and 13.5 seconds. Their performance earned them a 2nd place national ranking, an outstanding result that reflects both their dedication and rapid progress in the sport.
The students only began rowing when they joined the programme in Year 8. Despite having just two years of experience, their determination and teamwork have already placed them among the best in the country.
Reflecting on their success, Mr Peacock said:
“I am proud of these young men and what they have managed to accomplish in rowing. Since the rowing project began in 2019, I’ve strived for us to achieve more and aim high. This is our best result to date.”
Team captain Kacper also shared his experience of the sport:
“Rowing has given me the opportunity to try out different sports. It’s introduced me to a supportive and welcoming community where everyone is friendly. I’ve even had the chance to compete outside of school at Liverpool Victoria Rowing Club, which has helped build my confidence in other sports too.”
