Elevating, Empowering, and Encouraging Excellence
At North Liverpool Academy, our Scholars Programme is a bespoke pathway designed to stretch and challenge our most able students. We don’t just focus on academic results; we build a community of learners who share high aspirations and equip them with the skills and confidence to succeed at the world’s most prestigious universities, including Oxbridge and Russell Group universities.

The Scholars' Journey
From the moment a student joins us in Year 7, they begin a structured six-year journey. As seen in our Scholars Journey Map, this path leads from foundational discovery in Key Stage 3 to intensive university preparation in the 6th Form.

Beyond the Classroom: The 'Super Curriculum'
At North Liverpool Academy, we believe that true academic excellence is achieved when students are encouraged to explore beyond the boundaries of the standard classroom. Our Super Curriculum is a rigorous, termly programme of enrichment designed to stretch the intellectual horizons of our Scholars and prepare them for the challenges of higher education and professional life.
Bridging the Gap: Our Summer School
The transition from Year 6 to Year 7 is a significant milestone, and we are committed to ensuring it is a seamless and exciting experience. To support our newest Scholars, we host an extensive Summer School that begins almost immediately after the primary term ends.
In the summer of 2025, we delivered 44 bespoke sessions across 25 days, accommodating over 500 students. Through a diverse range of activities, including Multi-Sports, 'Ready Steady Cook', Arts and Crafts, and Movie Making, students can settle into their new surroundings, meet their teachers, and form lasting friendships before their first official day in September.
Digital Innovation & Home Learning Support
We are committed to ensuring that every Scholar has the tools they need to succeed in a rapidly evolving digital world. To support access to our Super Curriculum and independent research, the Academy provides Scholars with home devices and specialist resources, including:
- Laptops and iPads to facilitate seamless learning between school and home.
- Raspberry Pi kits to encourage hands-on programming and technical exploration.
World-Class Robotics & Computational Thinking
Our Scholars are at the forefront of STEM education, developing the critical computational thinking skills required for future careers.
- National Success: For the second consecutive year, NLA teams have qualified for the UK Robotics Championships.
- Competitive Excellence: Students participate in a wide range of activities, including VEX and LEGO Robotics. This year, our Year 7 and 8 VEX teams secured their places in the national finals during a regional qualifier proudly hosted here at the Academy.
Academic Research & The Classics
The Super Curriculum places students at the centre of the learning process through high-level academic study and independent inquiry:
- The Project Series: Each term, Scholars in Key Stage 3 produce a bespoke Project Book. These allow students to demonstrate individual research skills across diverse fields, from Beekeeping and Board Game Creation to Podcast Production and GCSE Statistics.
- Latin & Classical Civilisation: Scholars receive specialist tuition in the Classics, often supported by university-led sessions, providing a prestigious foundation in linguistics and ancient history.
Oracy, Competition, and Elite Sport
Confidence is built through experience. Our Super Curriculum offers a plethora of opportunities for students to test their skills against their peers:
- Elite Competitions: Scholars represent the Academy in national events such as Debate Mate, VEX Robotics, and regional Chess tournaments.
- Professional Mentoring: Students work with professional mentors to develop subject-specific oracy skills, ensuring they can articulate complex ideas with clarity.
- Scholarly Sports: Beyond the classroom, Scholars are invited to master traditional activities that build discipline and resilience, including fencing and rowing.

Proven Success
Our programme has a proven track record of helping students secure places at world-leading universities. Our alumni include students such as Danie, who achieved AAA to study Medicine at Cambridge University, and Eve, who secured three As to study History at Cambridge University.
Bashar, our former Head Boy, achieved A*A*A and progressed to Cambridge University to study Medicine, read more about his experience below.
Bashar Rovezi
Previous Head Boy and Scholar
"My journey at North Liverpool Academy started in 2017. I was frightened at the thought of making friends with people who might judge me, scary teachers, and the older years! However, when I arrived, there was none of that - all the other students were kind and fun to have in a school environment, and the teachers always pushed me to strive for success in all manner of academia, sports, and self-improvement. All the support from peers and teachers, combined with the excellent facilities and opportunities available, led to my gaining residential places at Cambridge and Oxford Universities and work experience at the NHS and corporations such as BioGrad. I also shouldn’t forget the excellent chess team that is inviting other secondary schools in Merseyside to our school to take part in a regional tournament - what an accomplishment. I achieved 2 A*’s and an A in my A Levels and I’m looking forward to my next journey at Cambridge University, studying medicine. I certainly don’t regret coming to this brilliant school!"
Chess at NLA
The Chess Club at North Liverpool Academy has gone from strength to strength, establishing itself as a cornerstone of our intellectual community. We are proud to support a growing cohort of players across a variety of year groups who regularly represent the Academy in competitions at both regional and national levels.
Beyond the board, the study of Chess is an integral part of our commitment to cognitive development. Engaging in the game empowers our students to enhance their memory and concentration and provides an elite platform to refine strategic thinking and complex problem-solving.
Chess further encourages a high degree of creativity, as players must "think outside the box" to devise unique strategies and counter-moves. This fosters a profound sense of originality, enabling our Scholars to approach both academic and real-world challenges with innovative, sophisticated solutions.
