During the visit, students explored the historic college environment, learnt more about the admissions process, and spoke with current undergraduates about their academic journeys. A highlight of the day was a mastery session exploring the links between biodiversity and mathematics, where students examined how mathematical modelling and data analysis are used to understand and protect natural ecosystems.

The experience provided valuable insight into studying at an elite institution, broadening horizons and raising aspirations for future university applications.

Biology Students Discover the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)

Sixth Form Biology students recently took part in an exceptional enrichment experience, visiting Liverpool Life Sciences UTC to view and learn about a Scanning Electron Microscope. During the visit, students observed the microscope in action, examined samples and gained insight into how this advanced scientific equipment is used in real-world research and industry settings.

This unique opportunity was made possible through both NLA and Liverpool Life Sciences UTC being part of Northern Schools Trust, and through the UTC’s industry partnerships with Hitachi, The Institute For Research in Schools and The Royal Microscopical Society. Experiences like this provide students with invaluable exposure to cutting-edge scientific research and demonstrate the powerful opportunities available through collaboration and partnership.

Student Social Media Team

NLA's Year 12 Student Social Media Team has been meeting weekly to create engaging video content designed to showcase our Sixth Form offer to prospective Year 11 students.

At each session, students arrive with fresh ideas and growing confidence, developing their skills in content creation, collaboration and digital communication. Their enthusiasm and creativity have been evident throughout.

Miss Brennan, Web and Social Media Executive at Northern Schools Trust, said:
“Students have come to each session with new ideas and are growing in confidence and skill each session. I am looking forward to seeing where this takes them, and they are brilliant digital ambassadors for the school.”

The team is focused on producing content that appeals directly to Year 11 students considering North Liverpool Academy Sixth Form, including revision tips, helpful facts and honest advice. Keep an eye out for their work on TikTok as they continue to represent the school with creativity and confidence.
